Merry Christmas From the Andersons

Wow, 2010 sure seemed to fly by fast! It’s our prayer that this past year has been one where you kept close to God in all of life’s ups and downs. Our year sure was a roller coaster ride with plenty of high and low moments. But looking back we see God’s hand of providence and protection at every turn on the track. Every time we turned to Him for guidance, we found the solutions and lessons we needed to move ahead on life’s path.
Juliette, the kids and I sure can say God faithful! Juliette has been involved in much of what is listed below. Home schooling, teaching in our schools, women’s groups, water aerobics, swim lessons, surf lessons, surfing, swim team, cooking, cleaning, chasing Katrina (we all do that every day), and time spent with her hubby keep her pretty busy.
Nathan and Cole’ are now married and just completed their twelve week course in Tijuana, Mexico. Their school is called the Leadership Training School and is part of our University of the Nations. They were privileged to learn from some of our best international leaders about servant leadership, good planning, and making the most of their lives and service to God.
Jessica is still number one in Chile for professional surfing. She really has a great gift from God in her surfing ability. Pray she will really use it for his glory. Janelle is now finishing her high school by mid December. She is number three in Chile for pro-surfing as well. She really is fearless in the water on big waves. I see guys in the water stop to watch her (a girl) drop in on big waves. They have such a look of surprise on their faces. (That’s a proud daddy talking.) Michaela is studying, swimming, hanging out with her friends, and taking care of her little sister. She is such a responsible young lady. Katrina keeps us all on our toes. She is twelve now and is such a constant source of joy (and frustration at times) for our whole family. Her unconditional love is constantly reminding us of God’s unconditional, agape love for us.
Mitch has been busy running a host of projects like the rebuilding after the quake, teaching in our schools, and overseeing all the teams, schools and activities around here. He was selected to be a judge of the international big wave competitions here in Pichilemu. The top big wave riders in the world come here to ride huge surf. They sure are an interesting bunch and Mitch has been able to get to know many of them. He also acted in a movie! It was the story of the first surfer in Chile. He came from California to search for waves and adventure. It was in the early seventies so he also found himself in the middle of the military coup. He was a communist sympathizer. There was Mitch, a conservative Christian, working with all professional actors who are for the most part communists! God sure puts us into the craziest places to extend His kingdom!
Just last wee he thinks he found the last hole in the pool from the quake! We have been running our swim program but in a leaky pool. Please pray it really is patched up. It's been a long 10 months since that 3 minute quake!
In a nut shell, since our last Christmas letter, we have seen over three thousand people come through our ministry center. We’ve sent out outreach teams to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Haiti, South Africa, USA, India and Germany! It was so great to see these young people get trained up and sent out to share God’s love in all those places. We have received ministry teams from USA, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, England, Switzerland, Mexico, Uruguay. We have seen people from over 43 nations come through our lives in these last twelve months! Our ministry center needs a set of revolving doors at the entrance!
Our base ran 7 six month Discipleship Training Schools, 3 six month Biblical Counseling Schools, 1 nine month School of Biblical Studies, and 2 three month Biblical Studies Core courses. We also ran a host of kids camps, youth leadership retreats, pastors retreats, marriage enrichment seminars, worship seminars, Biblical studies seminars, English courses, music courses, swim lessons, swim team, surf classes, surf club activities, volleyball, soccer and other stuff.
We held our first Pura Vida Surf competition with a concert on the beach. We had the big quake a week before our annual swim meet so it had to be canceled. (Mitch is still trying to find the leaks in the pool.) We did just host the Chilean University Nationals in our leaky pool. (Mitch filled it up and we ran the meet while it drained out!)
We also went crazy with construction! We built over 42, two bedroom houses for the families who lost theirs in the big quake. We also helped build a host of temporary shacks that the government sent out for people to live in. We did much in repairing and rebuilding the damage to our YWAM facilities as well. We began construction on a Gym building that will serve the community in a variety of ways. We are up on the hill in the green zone for Tsunamis, so our gym will also be a refuge for folks who flee the water front looking for higher ground. We have experienced five other tsunami warnings over the last 17 years. People are already used to come running up our way.
A friend from Spain came to visit us last week. He told me about his visit to a horse ranch there in the north of Spain he recently visited. He noticed that so many of the horses were  lame, blind and old. This was a horse farm for thoroughbreds! When he asked the owner of the ranch why so many were so messed up, the man gave an interesting answer. The owner said the horses were of great value because of the bloodline they carried in their veins. They were of champion stock. I began to think how much that applies to us. We all have our imperfections, quirks and qualms. It’s Christ’s sacrifice and His blood that gives us such significance and purpose.
I am forever grateful for what Christ did for me by coming to earth to pay for my sins. Because he shed his blood, I am part of his royal family! Since we are now children of the great King, he calls us to be militant with our faith. Instead of just trudging through life and waiting to get to heaven, we are to bring Gods Kingdom into all areas of society. “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.” Serving Him and aiming to please him is the greatest adventure anyone can ever have. It’s our prayer that you endeavor to walk out the unique adventure God has for you in the New Year to come.
God bless you and yours. Thanks so much for your friendship, prayers and support. God  uses you and others to encourage us on this roller coaster ride of life in His service. Have a great 2011! To the degree that you make his dreams and desires yours, you will have an amazing ride with eternal purposes.

Mexico Update

Greetings,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a great day with the Curtis family in San Diego. The festivities included Turkey, Pie, Ice Skating, along with watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade for the first time and Pumpkin Chunk-in.We returned to Tijuana at about 7 PM and slept about 12 hours straight. Our first thanksgiving together in the United States has been memorable.

We are nearing the End of our time here in Mexico.Only 3 weeks left in our school.Everyone is working hard to finish our school projects. We only have another two weeks to turn everything in.I just finished a planning sheet with over 170 action steps for the next 5 years.

This has also been a great time to seek God and his direction for our lives and ministry in the next few years. We know that these plans are not set in stone and we hold them lightly, always seeking the guidance and confirmation of the Holy Spirit. But it is refreshing to dream big with God and to know that he can use us to extend his Kingdom in Chile.

We will be spending Christmas in Fremont CA with my grandparents and family. We fly back to Chile on December 28 just in time for new years. Then we hit the ground running, preparing for our Pura Vida Surf contest, and other summer ministries we will be working with.

We Hope that everyone has a great Christmas and a Happy New Years. Please Keep us in your prayers.

Greetings from Pichilemu, Chile!

So glad to be back home again. After almost 23 years in Chile we have spent almost half our lives here. Just a quick note to fill you in on our present blessings and challenges.
We really hit the ground running after coming back from California/ Mexico. We are celebrating our YWAM 50th year jubilee. Our founders Loren and Darlene Cunningham have been traveling around the entire world visiting some 40 YWAM ministry centers celebrating and encouraging as they go. Out of the nearly 1,300 centers they chose our ministry here in Pichilemu to come and bless! We are humbled and so grateful for their awesome gesture to come all the way out here to celebration with us.
We came back here to find over 250 students and staff in our ministry location. We are expecting over 400 to be here celebrating with us in less that two weeks! So we have to bring in a big tent and set everything up by then. We are also in the middle of building 2 houses. We will then build two more houses right after the conference for more people who are quake victims. It is such a blessing to bless people with a new home.
I was in the empty pool on Monday trying to find where the cracks are and a group of people showed up to see me. They are sports department heads from ten Universities here in Chile. They said they want to hold the Chilean University Nationals in our pool on the first weekend of November. They asked if I could fix the pool, reconnect the electricity, reconnect the water, and all in just three weeks! I said I sure would try. They said if it works out then maybe we also could hold the Bi- Nationals Chile Vs. Argentina in mid November. Two great opportunities that we sure don't want to miss.
Nathan and Consuelo seem to be having a great time in the Leadership Training School up in Mexico. They are learning about servant Leadership from the best. They had a big challenge with the finances but God really has been faithful. The 12 week course normally cost $3,000 for Nathan and $1,500 for Consuelo. School leaders gave Nathan a $1,000 scholarship and also gave Consuelo $250 towards her tuition. So thaey faced a $3,250 challenge. They saw that challenge shrink by $1,000 in the first couple weeks. But Friday night the YWAM family there raised an offering of $1,300! God turly is amazing! They did not know it was coming but God sure did. Now they face the last of the tuition which is about $1,000 so please keep them in prayer.
Jessica is heading for Peru with our Chilean national surf team to compete in international Surf Competition. Surfers will come from all over the world to compete. Pray for her safety and success. The other girls are studying and surfing and enjoying the Chilean springtime.
As we approach the end of another year, we are challenged by what the future may hold. So many of us have had our world shaken in one way or another. Ours was really literal as we still are being shaken regularly with aftershocks. Though they may seem bad, one really good thing came come of them. When the world we are familiar with is shaken and turned upside down, we have a chance to fully turn to God for comfort and peace. He is right there to embrace us with open arms and carry us through the storm. I believe that a storm is coming. We have already been buffeted by all kinds of trials. But we are blessed because one of the results of these difficulties is that we have really looked to God for answers. We can say that he has all the answers you need. His word says that perfect love casts out all fear. It is so true. Our prayer is that you would give even more room for His perfect love in your life. You will find renewed peace and a joy that goes way beyond your circumstance.
Thanks again to all you who have encouraged us with your friendship, love and support over the years. God has used so many of you to help us move ahead as we seek to serve Him with all that we have. God bless you for your loving support.
In Him, Mitch, Juliette, Nathan, Consuelo, Jessica, Janelle, Michaela, and Katrina Anderson

Greetings to all!

I am writing you from Tijuana Mexico where we are attending the Leadership Training School. We have just finished our second week and are very excited about what God is doing in this time.Their are nine students from our base in Pichilemu attending the school. The topics cover a wide range of subjects like servant leadership, influencing the different spheres of society including many practical applications. Each student has to put together a 5 year ministry project as part of the curriculum. We also have the privilege of spending time with 110 students from 32 different nations.

Photobucket

God has really been speaking to us and bringing a greater focus to our areas of ministry.Myself and my wife will be putting together two projects for the next five years. One of the areas where we feel called to minister is in the surfing community in Chile.Another involves raising up christian musicians(especially Latin American ones)to be salt and light and extending the kingdom of God through their lives and music.

This school is really challenging us to partner with God and really think of new and creative ways for these areas of society to be truly invaded with the kingdom of God.We had some Ideas of what we wanted to do before we came to the school but for now we are waiting on the Lord to bring fresh revelation. It is great to know you are working for the creator of the universe. He has plenty of creativity for his children to use in extending his kingdom.

We are also planning for this coming year 2011.We have a few things already set in stone.February 5 and 6 we will be hosting a beach festival in Pichilemu that will include a surf Contest and live music.A team from Christian Surfers in Australia will be coming to help us with the event.

On April 4 we will begin our first ever Surf Skate and Snow Discipleship training School. This will include a 3 month lecture phase and a 2 month outreach. We will be serving on staff for this School.for more information you can check our Website

We have many new challenges to face with these plans so please keep us in your prayers. Also in the area of our finances we still need to pay our tuition fees for the school. If you are interested in supporting us you can do so online through PayPal.

Greetings to all from both California, Chile, and Mexico. Our family is
really spread all over the place right now. These last couple of months
have been full of travel visiting friends, family, and churches
across California and Mexico.

Juliette and the girls are back home and really hit the ground running.
The girls continue with their home schooling and have jumped right back
into the ocean for some real big waves. Today is our first day of
Spring in Chile and we just celebrated our Bi-centenial on September
18th. She is busy as we have much to do in preparing for our upcoming Summer
outreach.

Photobucket

We are also celebrating YWAMs' 50th anniversary this year. Our founders
Loren and Darlene Cunningham have been traveling around the world this
year and celebrating with our YWAM family. Our mission is in over 220
nations with hundereds of ministry centers all over the world. We now
have over 20,000 full time workers from those 220 nations. So amazing
to see God raising up people from all over the world to preach His Good
News and disciple the nations.

Loren and darlene have chosen the 40 largest ministry centers in the
YWAM world to visit throught the year. They will visit our center in
Pichilemu on October 27-30! We are preparing for our celebration and
are really honored to have them come all the way down to be with us. When
Juliette and I pioneered YWAM Pichilemu over 17 years ago, we never
thought it would grow into one of the largest ministry centers in YWAM!
As I look around for reasons why we have been so successful, one truth
comes to mind. Our 'success' in life rests entirly on our dependence on
God. The more we lean upon him and seek to please him, the more we will
we will see his loving hand move on our behalf. That does not mean we
will get 'everything we think we want'. We are assured that all our
needs will be met as we seek first his kingdom and righteousness.

Julie and I (along with all our leadership and staff) have been far
from perfect in this pursuit. We are certainly surrounded by heroes of
the faith. Our leaders and staff are truly amazing in their sacrifice,
love and service to God. We are amazed at the quality of people God has
been faithful to send our way over the years. Put simply, God is
faithful and he is worthy of our praise and our service.

So much to do in this next season. Our community center is still down from the quake. We have so many challenges to overcome in order to get back on track. Our pool is empty and has some major leaks due to the quake. Please pray God gives me wisedom in finding the leaks and patching things up. Any plumbers out there?

I (Mitch) am still in California until Oct. 4. I am part of the committee for our College of Arts and Sports with our University of the Nations. I am meeting with some really brilliant people as we seek Gods heart for this College. Imagine a University truly based on first Character developement and humility! The aim is to raise up servant leaders in the upcoming generations.

Blessings to all and know you're in our prayers. Mitch, Juliette, Nathan, Consuelo, Jessica, Janelle, Michaela, and Katrina Anderson

Greetings from California!

If this global warming gets any worse, we may just all freeze to death! We have been in California now for over a month and are still waiting for summer to arrive. From the weather to the economy to the world around us there is sense of real change in the air.

Quake Update

It really began for us back in late February with the big quake and Tsunami. Our lives are forever changed from that event. Thee were over 400 quakes above 5.0 and over 1,000 in the 4 range. Some reached 7.2 with dozens more in the 6 range. Quakes in all flavors shapes and sizes. Just last week there was a 6.8! One thing we take away from this is that God is really on the move. He shapes nations and speaks to people through the circumstances in life. The best thing we can do is to have a listening ear to hear what's on His heart.

We have been aiming to hear and obey during this season with a renewed fear of the Lord on our lives. The adventure of living really begins when we set His desires above our own. I am so aware of how small our vision and dreams can be compared to his.

It sure has been an adventure on this trip. Before we left and since the quake we were able to build over 16 homes for families who lost theirs. We also repaired many others and built many temporary shelters for families to live in. Jesus said it is better to give than receive and he sure was right! It is such a blessing to show up and just build a two bedroom house for a family with no strings attached. People are blown away and just finally break down in joy and gratitude to us and to God for His faithfulness. God has opened so many new doors for us through this disaster. It has been such a blessing to see how people have been looking to us for help and for answers in the wake of this tragedy.

YWAM Base Update

Our ministry center continues to grow each quarter. We now have nearly 220 students and staff from some 20 countries working in our various missionary training schools. We also have workers on outreaches in Africa, Europe, North America, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Columbia, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico. From sharing Gods love at the World Cup, to reaching out to orphans in Brazil, to ministering in Pennsylvania, we are really all over the map! It gets me tired just talking about it!

California Travels

We have crisscrossed the state a couple of times so far from San Francisco to San Diego. Sharing in churches, meeting with friends and making new ones has summed up the experience. People ask,'So how is your vacation going?' I reply' I will let you know when we have one'. We hit the ground running ever since we arrived.

God has provided for each day just about on the same day as we travel. Jesus said don't worry about tomorrow for it has enough troubles of its own. Just trust in him for today and that is what we have been trying to do. With the uncertainty of the times we live in, we must lean on Him more than ever. We sure do not know what the future holds but our prayer is that you know Him who holds the future in his hands.

Nathan and Consuelo are now here traveling with us! They make a really good couple and seem so happy together. They have both decided to go into missions right from the start. Juliette and I did the same thing 27 years ago. We have never regretted that life choice and God has provided our needs each step of the way. They are moving out in the areas of music ministry and Christian Surfers Chile. Surfers and musicians really do go well together. Nathan comands real respect as a big wave rider, musician and a 'soul surfer' down in Chile.

They do face two challenges right now. First they must pay the airfare for their trip up here. Second they a going to attend a missionary training course in Tijuana Mexico. The school is called the Leadership Training School. It is a twelve week course on Biblical principles in leadership. The school begins in late September and goes through mid December. Juliette and I have wanted to take the school since 1985 but have not been able to so far. We're so blessed that they are aiming to do it.

Please pray that God provides the finances for the flight and school in short order. We are also trying to help them raise monthly support. It really is a big decision to move out in faith during these uncertain times. We are proud of them that they are taking the road less traveled. If you would like to help them out, donations can be made to our support address below.

We had a chance to work with Christian Surfers down at the US Open of Surfing last week. It was the biggest surf contest in the history of surfing! Over 500,000 people were said to have attended. The folks down there did an incredible job sharing the love of Christ to the surfers and spectators. The surfing culture can be a really tough place to share your faith. The strategy of serving the people there sure opens doors. We had a chance to share with some of the worlds best professional surfers. You never know what doors God will open up. I jumped into the water for a surf down beach from the contest. I ended up surfing with Kelly Slater and a number of the other top pro's!

God sure has been faithful to keep His promises to us. He never promised us an easy life. He does promise to walk with us on this journey as we seek to please him. He really is the reason we exist. He is the ONLY ONE who can give purpose and meaning to our time spent here on earth. We only live out each day once. Our prayer for you is that you will set your course to serve Him today. That is the secret to really living the purpose driven life.

Thanks so much to all of you who support us and our family. God bless you for your friendship, prayers, and generous support. God bless you with His peace and joy as you seek to walk out your life in Him.

In Him, Mitch, Juliette, Nathan, Consuelo, Jessica, Janelle, Michaela, and Katrina Anderson
